The UFC was in Kallang, Singapore this morning (Sat. June 23, 2018) for a great card that mixed martial arts (MMA) fans enjoyed.
In the main event of the evening, former UFC lightweight title challenger Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone fell to up-and-coming 170-pound prospect Leon Edwards on the judges’ scorecards. The win from Edwards solidifies him as one of the top prospects in the division to keep your eye on.
Also, the co-main event showcased former interim 205-pound title challenger Ovince Saint Preux earning an amazing first round submission win over Tyson Pedro. You can check out the full UFC Singapore results here:
Main Card:
- Welterweight: Donald Cerrone vs. Leon Edwards
Round 1:
A body kick from Edwards to open the fight. A left hand lands for Edwards and he ducks a shot before clinching up with Cerrone. Against the cage now and a knee from Edwards cuts Cowboy’s eye. They separate after Edwards lands some elbows. Edwards stuffs a takedown attempt from Cerrone.
Another elbow separates them from the clinch but again Cowboy initiates the clinch. A high kick lands for Edwards and he follows up with a hard low kick. Another high kick lands for Edwards. Edwards with another big low kick. The round comes to an end.
Round 2:
A big kick to the body again from Edwards to open the round. Some elbows inside the pocket from Edwards and Cerrone backs off. Cerrone has Edwards against the cage now and eats a knee to the body as he goes in for a takedown. Edwards continues to attack Cerrone’s cut as they separate and there is blood all over Cowboy’s face and body.
A hard kick to the body from Edwards. Cerrone lands a right hand. A temporary pause in action due to a low blow from Cerrone. A big head kick from Edwards and he no sells it, immediately looking to the referee and saying that Cerrone grabbed his glove.
Round 3:
Some nice shots from Edwards early on and Cerrone responds with a nice combination of his own, however, it’s mostly blocked. A right hook from Edwards finds a home and Cerrone finds a nice uppercut. Cerrone clinches up with Edwards who separates with some elbows and strikes. A takedown attempt from Cerrone is stuffed. Edwards is taunting Cerrone every time he blocks or avoids a shot. A nice left counter from Edwards lands. The round comes to an end.
Round 4:
A leg kick as Cerrone throws a high kick knocks Cowboy down off balance. Edwards responds quickly with a kick to the chest as Cerrone gets up. A high kick from Edwards just misses. Cerrone clinches Edwards against the cage. A high kick from Edwards lands and he lands a small hook as Cerrone comes inside as well.
A nice body kick from Edwards again and he catches Cerrone with a hook as he comes inside to clinch up again. Edwards makes a mistake trying to trip Cerrone and ends up on the canvas with Cerrone on top of him. Edwards is able to get to his feet. A leg kick lands for Edwards and the round comes to an end.
Round 5:
The pair touch gloves to start the round. Cerrone’s cut is bleeding bad but he continues forward. Edwards is able to land some nice shots on Cerrone as he comes inside. A kick from Cerrone is caught but Edwards misses on a strike after the catch. Cerrone clinches up Edwards against the cage and goes for the trip.
Cerrone gets the takedown and is on top in half guard. Edwards gets to his feet and fires a leg kick. A leg kick from Cerrone lands. Cerrone calls for them to stand and bang but Edwards sticks tot he game plan. The round comes to the end and they embrace.
