UFC Argentina Results: Ponzinibbio Brutalizes Magny

Tonight (Sat. November 17, 2018) UFC Argentina goes down from the Estadio Mary Terán de Weiss in Buenos Aires. In the main event, top-ranked welterweights Neil Magny and Santiago Ponzinibbio attempt to make a case for title contention. The co-main event of the night features a great featherweight match-up between Ricardo Lamas and Darren Elkins.

Main Card:

  • Welterweight: Neil Magny vs. Santiago Ponzinibbio

Round 1:

Ponzinibbio is pressuring early but doesn’t throw shots, just wants to put Magny against the cage. Leg kick from Ponzinibbio and he follows up with a jab. Ponzinibbio now pressuring forward with big shots, and Magny’s right eye is disturbed. A clean right-hand lands for Ponzinibbio. Another big leg kick from Ponzinibbio lands. Big shot to the body and jab from Ponzinibbio. Another big right-hand lands for Ponzinibbio. Ponzinibbio lands a big right hand again to end the round.

Round 2:

Magny comes out very active this round. A big leg kick from Ponzinibbio drops Magny to the canvas. Ponzinibbio allows Magny to stand up. A big jab to the body from Ponzinibbio lands nicely. Another leg kick from Ponzinibbio drops Magny down and he’s allowed to stand. Ponzinibbio is cut under his eye from a headbutt earlier. The action is stopped for a few seconds but Ponzinibbio is allowed to continue.

Another leg kick drops Magny down. Magny is hobbling on his leg. Magny backs Ponzinibbio up with a front kick to the body. Ponzinibbio stuffs a takedown attempt and Ponzinibbio allows him to stand again. A big jab cracks Magny and wobbles him. The round comes to an end.

Round 3:

Magny comes out active with jabs and leg kicks. Magny is using his reach very well right out the gate. Ponzinibbio lands another leg kick that hurts Magny. Mangy fires back with some hooks to back Ponzinibbio up. Magny’s leg is really bothering him, and Ponzinibbio is able to keep him pinned against the fence. Ponzinibbio is landing big shots, but they’re mostly hitting gloves. Another shot hurts Magny’s leg. The round comes to an end.

Round 4:

A big leg kicks drops Magny but he’s allowed to get up. Magny tries to get a takedown but it fails. Another leg kick drops Magny down, but he gets up again. Another leg kick drops Magny down and he gets up, but this time with a warning from the referee. Magny eats another kick but stays on his feet, hopping around. A huge shot from Ponzinibbio lands on Magny’s chin, and he is out cold! That’s it!
