Conor McGregor Explains The Difference Between Diaz/Poirier Rematches

Conor McGregor is done making taunting recordings and has now gone full terminator mode as the days draw closer to his UFC 264 trilogy against Dustin Poirier.

Leading up to UFC 264, Conor McGregor has kept a relatively low profile. And now that he has emerged to begin doing media interviews, his focus and fire are blazing through before one of his biggest career fights.

McGregor’s back is against the wall, as the prospect of losing two straight fights to the same opponent is not something McGregor has ever had to endure. The last time he was in this position was after losing to Nate Diaz at UFC 196. McGregor was able to bounce back and win a fight that most people viewed as a must-win back in 2016.

Now that McGregor is by far the biggest draw the sport has ever seen, it’s worth even questioning if he’s even capable of having a true “must-win” anymore. But for McGregor, his heightened security as the face of the UFC in 2021 is not the difference between his trilogy fight against Poirier and the rematch with Nate Diaz five years ago.

According to McGregor, the difference is that this fight will not go to the judges because of an intensity he plans to compete with on Saturday that will come through with every strike thrown.

“Yeah, the only difference between the Nate Diaz fight and this fight is I’m throwing kill shots now,” McGregor said in an interview with TheMacLife. “Every shot I have thrown in this camp is a kill shot. So that’s it. I’m gonna kill this man.”

McGregor’s killer instinct he intends to attack Poirier with is not born from any personal animosity, says McGregor. Nonetheless, the Irishman is giving new meaning to the often bitter phrase ‘He’s dead to me’ when it comes to his UFC 264 rival.

“I don’t give a fuck about him, to be honest,” McGregor said when asked if this fight is personal. “It’s just how I am. He’s a corpse, a dead body, a blank face that’s gonna get his ass whooped and took out on a stretcher.”

Ever the wordsmith, Conor McGregor would then orally paint a picture of what fans will witness come Saturday night in the evening’s final bout.

“Just a slaughterin’, play with a scared little boy, you know what I mean?” McGregor said coldly. “He’s fightin’ scared like he always does, like they always do against me. So I’m gonna play with the little boy, play with me food, and then just devour.”
