Alessio, Alves to Meet on October 10th

Welterweight contenders John Alessio and Thiago Alves will look to bounce back from recent UFC losses when they square off at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida on Tuesday, October 10th.
Tickets for this event, which is headlined by the final showdown between Tito Ortiz and Ken Shamrock, are sold out, but fight fans can view all the action on Spike TV beginning at 8pm ET.
A Vancouver native with a 23-9 mixed martial arts record, Alessio is coming off a close decision loss to highly touted Diego Sanchez in his last UFC bout on May 27th, but has scored a submission victory over Alex Serdyukov in a subsequent WEC match. Against Alves, he hopes to nab his first UFC win.
“He’s an aggressive fighter, which will play well into my fight style because he’ll come right at me, allowing me to counter effectively,” said `The Natural’. “I also think my jiu-jitsu is better than his also.”
American Top Team’s Alves (15-4, 2-2 in the Octagon) will probably have something to say about that on October 10th, especially considering that he will be fighting in his adopted home state of Florida.
“He (Alessio) looks to have good hands and wrestling skills, but this is my hometown and I feel very confident that with the support of my team and fans here that I will win,” said `The Pitbull’, who lost to fellow contender Jon Fitch in his last UFC bout, breaking a two fight Octagon win streak.
