Alistair Overeem Fails Pre-Fight Drug Test, UFC 146 In Limbo

Alistair Overeem has failed a pre-fight drug screening due to elevated T/E (testosterone/epitestosterone) ratio and is now unlikely to be facing Junior Dos Santos in the main event of UFC 146.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission surprised six fighters last week at the UFC 146 press conference with a random pre fight test. Overeem, Dos Santos, Frank Mir, Cain Velasquez, Roy Nelson, and Antonio Silva were all tested. The other five fighters all passed their tests.

Keith Kizer told MMAJunkie.com that Overeem's “A” sample had an elevated T/E of more than 10-to-1 and is able to request the “B” sample. If the “B” is negative he would still be eligible to receive a fight license but will have to appear before the commission.

Overeem has already found himself in hot water with the NSAC since signing with the UFC. Prior to his debut in December he missed a pre-fight test when he had flown back to Holland to care for his sick mother. He ended up getting a conditional license for the fight against Brock Lesnar and passed a test prior to the bout and again following the fight but one of the conditions on his license was that he submit to two randoms tests. The test following the fight was one, last week was two.

Stay tuned. The UFC has yet to comment.
