Before making his featherweight debut earlier this year, Anthony Pettis decided to train at Jackson-Wink MMA in New Mexico, splitting time from his home base of Roufusport in Milwaukee.
For UFC 206 and his interim featherweight title fight vs. Max Holloway, “Showtime” stayed with Duke Roufus and company.
The former lightweight champion also believes those who question his decision to cut to 145 are mistaken.
“Definitely exaggerated,” Pettis said, when asked about the difficulty of making weight. “The need for power isn’t as much as the need for speed.”
As a former champion, Pettis knows that holding gold means you are atop the mountain. This time, though, that is only partially true.
“The interim title means we’re getting a definite shot at the 145-pound title,” he said. “Title shots don’t come often in this sport.”
