Apsen Ladd is eyeing a big showdown with former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Miesha Tate.
Ladd was expected to take on Macy Chiasson this Saturday night (July 24) at UFC Vegas 32. That plan fell through the cracks as Chiasson suffered an injury. With no replacement opponent, Ladd is off the card.
Ladd isn’t thrilled with the news but she is already calling for a new opponent.
“Macy Chiasson has pulled out on weigh-in eve. This absolutely blows. Who wants to see me fight Miesha Tate?”
Prior to her bout with Chiasson being canceled, Ladd discussed Tate’s return during an interview with Karyn Bryant.
“I think that’s something that’s gonna stir up the division a bit and I’m very curious to see how she continues to do. That was a hard one, I didn’t watch it just trying to spectate, ‘oh, how’s Miesha doing?’ Marion’s my good friend so I was like, ‘eh, I’ll watch that one later in detail.’
“I think the division is definitely stronger than it was [when Miesha was active]. I think there’s women including myself that have, it’s just the skillset is different. Every year that goes by it improves. So it is different than when she left but she was a competitor when she left, she’s a competitor now. I’m not sure who they’ll give her next.”
Tate recently came out of retirement. She went one-on-one with Marion Reneau. Tate won the fight via TKO in the third round. It was her first fight since November 2016.
Ladd hasn’t competed since December 2019. She defeated Yana Kunitskaya via TKO in the third round. She was expected to fight Sara McMann back in June 2020. That plan ended up being derailed after Ladd tore her ACL and MCL while training.
