Today (Sat. February 23, 2019) James DeGale and Chris Eubank Jr. main evented Showtime boxing action from the O2 Arena in London, England. There had been a ton of animosity between these two in recent weeks. The two super middleweights are former sparring partners who have been getting nasty with one another on social media.
Tonight, they competed for the vacant IBO super middleweight championship. Eubank had previously held the WBA (Super) and IBO super middleweight titles. However, he had an eight-fight win streak snapped by George Groves in the semi-final of the World Boxing Super Series super middleweight tournament last year. As for DeGale, he is a former IBF super middleweight champion.
