RANALLO RESIGNS FROM PRIDE
By Loretta Hunt
Commentator Mauro Ranallo has resigned from his post with PRIDE Fighting Championships. The Canadian native, who served as PRIDE and PRIDE Bushido’s play-by-play commentator for some 30 events, informed the promotion of his resignation just prior to his final event this past Sunday at PRIDE Bushido 13.
Ranallo joined PRIDE’s broadcast booth for its Bushido 1 event in October 2003.
“I felt it was an untenable environment to work in. It was commonly known since day one that I’ve had difficulties with the American producer, Jerry Millen,” said Ranallo today.
With the re-organization of PRIDE’s Los Angeles offices in the coming weeks, Ranallo felt it was time for him to explore other options.
“Apart from Millen, I loved working with all of my colleagues at PRIDE, especially the Japanese staff,” says Ranallo. “They treated me very well, but I think my future as a broadcaster lies elsewhere.”
Millen was initially unavailable for comment. A representative for PRIDE's U. S. office refrained from making comment.
Ranallo would not comment on his next move, but said he is already in negotiations with at least two other “major MMA promotions” for a commentary position.
Living in Toronto, Ranallo is the on-air voice and personality for The Fight Network, North America’s only 24-hour combat sports channel, as well as the anchorman for their Fight Zone news program coming in 2007.
