Ahead of his Octagon debut, which will be documented in the premiere of his new multi-part special that kicks off on FS1 tonight called “The Evolution Of Punk,” former WWE Superstar Phil “CM Punk” Brooks recently appeared on popular radio station HOT 97 for an interview with Peter Rosenberg.
During the interview, which you can check oot above, Punk covered a lot of ground with Rosenberg. In addition to talking about his upcoming Octagon debut, the former WWE Superstar shared his thoughts on the ongoing beef between UFC mega-star “The Notorious” Conor McGregor and his former place of employment, World Wrestling Entertainment.
By now everyone has seen the back-and-forth between McGregor and WWE, which got started when McGregor referred to the current WWE roster as “messed up p*ssies.” The comments from the wildly popular Irish fighting star would prompt responses from a number of WWE talent, including but not limited to Roman Reigns, Ric Flair and Kurt Angle (a former star).
As Punk explained to Rosenberg during his HOT 97 appearance on Monday morning, he felt the WWE talent that took the bait from McGregor “embarrassed” themselves and “got worked” by the reigning UFC Featherweight Champion.
It’s worth pointing out that the main two WWE-related figures that McGregor was asked about on the official UFC 202 media conference call that started the drama between himself and several of WWE’s stars were actually Brock Lesnar and CM Punk. McGregor noted that he respected the fact that Lesnar got into the cage, but noted that he had to be “juiced to his eyeballs” to do so. Regarding Punk, McGregor said he didn’t have much of an opinion of him because he hasn’t seem him fight yet.
That will change at the UFC 203 pay-per-view, which follows this Saturday’s UFC 202 event headlined by the Conor McGregor vs. Nate Diaz 170-pound rematch, as Punk is slated to finally make his fighting debut in the Octagon.
Headlined by Stipe Miocic vs. Alistair Overeem for the UFC Heavyweight Championship, UFC 203 takes place on Saturday, September 10th from the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. Punk is scheduled to compete against up-and-coming prospect Mickey Gall in an undercard bout on the pay-per-view.
