Exclusive Pre-UFC Fight Night 94 Interview With Featherweight Contender Chas Skelly

Chas Skelly has seen a lot of success in his six fights in the UFC. Going 4-2 over a two year span with none of his victories being decided by the judges. After a decision loss this past March to Darren Elkins, Chas decided it was time for change. He packed up his things and moved to Florida to train with Blackzillians. A move that he believes will pay dividends quickly. ” For sure the sparring partners are much better than I’ve ever had. Ya know, with Team Takedown we had really good coaching, but I didn’t have anyone to work out with really. Any really great sparring partners. Just right there with our team. People would come in every now and then, but I just never consistently had anyone to work out with. This is a huge step for me going to a team with a lot of good guys around…”

The Featherweight division is at a crossroads. Loaded with talent, potential title contenders, and a champion who hasn’t defended his belt in 9 months since winning it. Skelly is not a fan of a Champion who can’t defend his crown. “I think. I don’t like it. I don’t like it at all. I think that’s ridiculous. I think if you are  champion at a weight you should be defending your title. There have been other champions in the past who have said something about going up and having super fights and have basically gotten snubbed. Saying you have a lot of contenders in your own weight class and that’s what you need to worry about…”

Listen to the full interview to hear Skelly’s thoughts on moving from Texas to Florida, his thoughts on his opponent Maximo Blanco, and much more. Make sure to watch him fight tonight 9/17 in Hidalgo, TX live on Fox Sports 1.
