World-renowned boxing trainer Freddie Roach has worked with Georges St-Pierre in the past and continues to do so as the former UFC welterweight champion ponders a return to the sport.
During a recent interview with Fight Hub TV, Roach claims it was Michael Bisping, the reigning UFC middleweight champion, who turned down a fight with St-Pierre.
“I do like that fight,” Roach said. “But Bisping said no. I know that fight’s not going to happen.”
GSP made waves when he discussed a possible return to the UFC after an extended stay on the sidelines. Roach claims he was negotiating with the Ferttita brothers, who recently sold their shares of the UFC.
Roach also said that St-Pierre “looked really good in training. He did really well,” but that no fight has been decided for his return.
Bisping is rumored for a fall meeting with Dan Henderson in London.
