The remake of the 1989 classic Jean-Claude Van Damme film “Kickboxer” just snagged another well-known martial artist.
It had been previously reported that former UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre had joined the cast, however now it’s official that the film is getting an addition of a former female fighting champ.
In a press release issued today, it was revealed that former Strikeforce standout Gina Carano has joined the cast of the movie, which began production last week in New Orleans — and will also film in Thailand.
The plot of the movie features Alain Moussi as Kurt Sloan, who travels to Thailand to avenge his brother’s death at the hands of Tong Po, played by former WWE Superstar David “Batista” Bautista.
The leading star of the original film — Jean-Claude Van Damme — has also been cast for the film. And the veteran action-movie star will play Master Chow, the mentor to Moussi.
“It will be fun to watch Gina as the sneaky and dangerous temptress, a boa constrictor of this fighting jungle,” said Ted Field of Radar Films. “Watch out kickboxers!”
