Georges St-Pierre is expected to retire today (Feb. 21).
St-Pierre is known for being the most dominant welterweight in the history of mixed martial arts. “Rush” reigned as the UFC 170-pound king from 2008-2013 in his second reign. St-Pierre had nine successful title defenses.
St-Pierre took a hiatus after his split decision win over Johny Hendricks. “Rush” returned in Nov. 2017 to challenge Michael Bisping for the UFC middleweight title. St-Pierre secured the rear-naked choke finish to capture the 185-pound gold inside New York City’s Madison Square Garden.
Reports claim that St-Pierre tried getting a fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov. The report goes on to note that once “Rush” couldn’t get the bout, he decided to retire. St-Pierre is expected to address the report in the presser. Nurmagomedov has urged St-Pierre to hold off on his retirement plans to fight him in November.
