Jon Jones Explains Flipping Off Daniel Cormier After UFC 197

As Jon Jones exited the Octagon Saturday night at UFC 197, he caught rival Daniel Cormier sitting several feet away from him.

Cormier, the reigning UFC light heavyweight champion, joined the broadcast team for the main event of the card, which saw Jones defeat Ovince Saint Preux to become interim champion.

That sets the two up for a likely date this July at UFC 200 as long as everyone is clear to go in roughly 11 weeks.

As “Bones” began the walk to the back, he didn’t take his eyes of “DC” until expressing his feelings for the former Olympian with the “one-finger salute.”

“It was me just being a jerk,” said Jones, during his appearance on the FS1 post-fight show. “He may have been really nice to me calling the fights. I’m not sure. I just wanted to cover my end.”

Cormier was complimentary for the most part, continually stating Jones was the greatest light heavyweight of all-time. He suffered his lone career loss to date to Jones back in 2015.

While he never got the finish vs. OSP, Jones was in complete control despite it being his first fight in over a year. The performance, though, left a sour taste in his mouth.

“I was getting booed,” Jones said. “I’ve never been booed in my career. I’m my biggest critic. I had an expectation to beat him and I didn’t really get to do that.”
