Korean Zombie Return Likely for Super Bowl Weekend Main Event vs Bermudez

He’s back!

After taking over three years off from MMA for his mandatory South Korean military service, it looks like”The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung is returning to the UFC in style. Ariel Helwani is reporting at MMAFighting that Zombie vs. #8 featherweight contender Dennis Bermudez is the likely main event of the February 4th UFC Fight Night in Houston as part of Super Bowl weekend. It would be the 29 year old Jung’s first fight in a whopping 42 months, having last competed in a losing effort to then-champion Jose Aldo at UFC 163 on August 3, 2013.

The Korean Zombie got his nickname for his ability to walk through shots, and instantly made himself a fan favorite in his American debut, a wild brawl with Leonard Garcia in the featured prelim of the Aldo vs. Urijah Faber card. The #5 featherweight contender at the time of his hiatus, he had gotten his title shot as a late replacement coming off a 14 and a half month layoff. While he looked off and flat during that bout, that’s an outlier in his career as one of the sport’s best action fighters. With Bermudez, who’s also known for wild fights, as Zombie’s probable first opponent back, it seems like the UFC is banking on a class action fight of a main event for Super Bowl weekend.
