Lobov Disagrees With Post-Fight Conor McGregor Interview At UFC 264

Artem Lobov doesn’t believe Conor McGregor should’ve been interviewed following his UFC 264 injury.

On July 10, McGregor went one-on-one with Dustin Poirier a third time. The score was even at 1-1 going into the trilogy fight. Poirier vs. McGregor 3 ended at the conclusion of the opening frame when the “Notorious” one suffered a broken tibia.

After the fight, UFC color commentator Joe Rogan interviewed McGregor, who hurled nasty digs at Poirier and his wife.

Speaking to MMAFighting.com, Lobov, who is McGregor’s longtime friend and training partner, said he believes the interview was unnecessary given McGregor’s injury.

“It was a mad situation. I mean, look at the way Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman were after his injury happened. … [McGregor] was still sitting up and I do think interviews shouldn’t even happen in that scenario. I’m surprised that it did happen. It shouldn’t have happened, but it is what it is in a way. You have to move on and live to fight another day. Now it’s time to heal, train, fix mistakes, and go back again. That’s it.”

SBG Ireland head coach, John Kavanagh, also expressed the same gripes (h/t MMAJunkie).

“His foot is literally hanging down. It’s a clean fracture on the fibula and tibia. It went straight through. It’s hanging down. You can only imagine the rush of hormones and what’s going to be going through your body at that moment. The pain – it was on fire. Then someone bends down and sticks a microphone in your face: ‘How are you feeling right now?’ It’s like, guys – come on.”

McGregor recently underwent successful surgery. He will be on crutches for a few weeks. He vows to return better than ever. UFC President Dana White has said a fourth bout between McGregor and Poirier makes sense but not before Poirier gets a UFC Lightweight Title shot against champion Charles Oliveira.
