Those that enjoyed watching men – and women – step on the scale for ceremonial weigh-ins ahead of UFC events might need to find their enjoyment elsewhere soon.
The upcoming UFC Fight Night 102 card from New York will not feature any of the ceremonial weigh-ins, only using the official ones in front of the New York Athletic Association.
According to a report by MMAjunkie, portions of the official weigh-in will be recorded and posted on UFC.com and UFC Fight Pass later in the day.
The UFC also released a statement regarding the decision:
“As UFC, in conjunction with the respective State Athletic Commissions, continues to look at opportunities to improve athlete health and safety and provide better weight management opportunities, it will also review its current weigh-in event format,” a statement from UFC officials reads. “As such, the official New York State Athletic Commission weigh-in for ‘UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Abdurakhimov’ will be the only weigh-in event in Albany.”
