Alistair Overeem has received a new opponent for UFC on ESPN+ 7.
Overeem was scheduled to meet sixth-ranked UFC heavyweight Alexander Volkov on April 20 in Saint Petersburg, Russia. ESPN’s Ariel Helwani reports that Aleksei Oleinik will be taking Volkov’s place. Helwani notes that Volkov withdrew from the bout for undisclosed reasons.
A Look At Alistair Overeem vs. Aleksei Oleinik
Overeem is coming off a first-round TKO victory over Sergey Pavlovich. The two clashed back in Nov. 2018. Pavlovich was undefeated, but he was also making his UFC debut. The difference in experience was evident and the UFC newcomer was overwhelmed by “The Reem.”
Speaking of someone with experience, Oleinik will be entering his 70th professional mixed martial arts bout. He’s earned back-to-back submission wins over Junior Albini and Mark Hunt. Oleinik has garnered a 6-2 record under the UFC banner, earning finishes in each of those wins.
UFC on ESPN+ 7 will also feature a lightweight tilt between Islam Makhachev and Arman Tsarukyan. Antonina Shevchenko (see our interview with her here) will also be in action as she will meet Roxanne Modafferi. MMA News will provide live coverage of UFC on ESPN+ 7.
