Paige VanZant suffered a tough loss last year, submitting to Rose Namajunas inside the Octagon.
Now, the 21-year-old wishes she had the chance to do the finish all over again.
But not just because she was unhappy with the end result. Instead, how it finished is what bothers VanZant (6-2).
“I think it’s just you giving up. It’s submitting and saying, ‘I give up, you can win,'” said VanZant, during an appearance on The MMA Hour (thanks to MMAFighting.com for transcribing). “And that’s just where I feel I could have just gone out. I would have rather gone out than tap out. I do care that I lost, but it’s the fact that I tapped out. I said, ‘Rose, you can beat me. Go for it.'”
VanZant referenced Holly Holm’s recent submission defeat to Miesha Tate, a bout in which Holm went was choked out in.
“That shows a lot of heart, a lot of determination,” she said. “I think she’s gonna come back really, really strong from it.”
Currently, VanZant is set to compete on “Dancing With The Stars,” but she has maintained a focus on returning to fight at UFC 200 in July.
