Visa issues have forced the planned UFC 203 opener this Saturday to now be part of the UFC Fight Night 97 lineup later this year.
Damir Hadzovic announced the change on social media.
“I feel bad for the fans who planned to see me in the US, and I feel bad for my opponent, and of course I am very disappointed that I do not get to fight right now when I am so ready and have been working so hard!” he wrote on Facebook. “The change of date is due to visa problems, I am approved for the visa but unfortunately because of delay I can not get my printed visa documents in time for my flight on Monday, therefor the UFC have moved the fight to another event.”
Hadzovic (10-3) and Yukawa Kazuya (9-2-2) were expected to compete on UFC Fight Pass from the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland. Instead, they will now meet October 15 from the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, Manila, Philippines.
UFC 203 features Stipe Miocic vs. Alistair Overeem for the heavyweight title, Fabricio Werdum vs. Travis Browne and CM Punk vs. Mickey Gall.
