Reason King Mo Didn’t Fight Phil Davis In Tourney Finals, Next 205-Pound Title Fight Set

As seen on Saturday’s Bellator/Glory: Dynamite 1 event from San Jose, California, light heavyweight finalist Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal was unable to advance to the finals against Phil Davis, and apparently there was a very good reason for that.

The early word coming out of the event is that Mo, who went the full two rounds with Linton Vassell in the semi-final bout earlier in the evening, suffered an injury, or aggravated an existing injury to the point that he could not compete in the finals as he would have liked.

According to manager Mike Kogan, King Mo tore the cartilage between his ribs so bad to the point that he could not even lift his arm above his head.

As a result, the tournament alternate Francis Carmont would advance to the finals against Davis, who defeated former Bellator light heavyweight champion Emanuel Newton via submission earlier in the evening, for the final match in the tournament.

Phil Davis could go on to knock out Francis Carmont in the co-main event of the evening, earning himself a shot at the winner of the Bellator light heavyweight title main event, which as we all saw, was won by reigning champion Liam McGeary via inverted triangle in the first round.
