Hazelett Answers Call, Faces DeSouza on October 10
By Thomas Gerbasi
When welterweight contender Joe Riggs was forced to withdraw from his October 10th matchup against returning UFC vet Tony DeSouza, 20-year-old Dustin Hazelett got the call to step in for Riggs and take on the biggest challenge of his career.
He accepted, and now the Kentucky native will get ready to battle against the Peruvian ground ace at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida on the undercard of the Tito Ortiz-Ken Shamrock showdown.
“I'm taking this fight on three weeks notice, but I've have been training hard, hoping something would come up,” said the 9-2 Hazelett, who trains with UFC standouts Rich Franklin and Jorge Gurgel. In DeSouza, he will be facing a world-class competitor who is 2-1 in the UFC, but who hasn’t competed in the Octagon since 2001.
Tickets for Ortiz vs Shamrock 3: The Final Chapter, are sold out, but the show can be viewed live on Spike TV beginning at 8pm.
