When Rich Franklin returns to the middleweight divison this July against former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Cung Le, he hopes to kick start a final run at the UFC Middleweight title and talked about the possibility of winning the title again:
“The great Cinderella story would be for me to drop to 185 and make a run for the title,” he said. “I can't say I haven't thought about that. But I don't want to put the carriage before the horse. I have a tough opponent in front of me, and I really need to focus on that fight first and get some momentum going.”
Franklin also talked about how open fans would be to a third fight against Anderson Silva:
“After this injury, I was talking to Monte Cox and I said, 'what would the UFC think about me moving back down to 185?' I think at this point in time, in their minds, if I was able to put a title run together, even if they did do another rematch between Anderson (Silva) and I, there's been enough time at this point there would be interest in the fight, and I guess that's what the interest is now. … Hopefully, this is where I'll finish my career.”
