Ronda Rousey Says She’ll Fight At UFC 176 If Needed

On Wednesday, it was announced that the scheduled UFC 176 main event between Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes is off due to Aldo suffering an injury during training. At this week’s UFC 175 media day, UFC Women’s Bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey says she’d be willing to step up and main event the show less than a month after her title defense this weekend against Alexis Davis.

“If they needed me to step up, I would do it. I would appreciate the rest, but if they really needed me to do it, they know I would do it.”

Earlier this week, Rousey did a UFC 175 media conference call and stated she would fight on 24-hours notice. She backed up that bold claim at the UFC 75 media day from Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas:

“I told them I would fight on 24-hours’ notice and they know that. When I make a promise, I mean it.”

This would be the first time ever that a UFC champion would defend their title twice in a month. Of course, she’d have to first win her fight this Saturday night and escape relatively unscathed. That said, she’s a heavy favorite to defeat Alexis Davis, with the current UFC 175 betting odds pegging her as a 17-1 favorite.
