Stipe Miocic Loves Cleveland, But Dreams Of MSG Title-Fight

As he sits in awe of Saturday’s UFC 205 mega-card from Madison Square Garden in New York City, heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic can’t help but wonder what it would feel like to be competing.

Miocic, who successfully defended his belt vs. Alistair Overeem in his home state of Ohio earlier this year, told MMAjunkie that he wants to fight in MSG next if given the choice between NYC and Cleveland.

“I choose MSG first,” Miocic said. “Because then I’ll win again there and then the next will be in Cleveland. It’s amazing, some of the best boxing matches ever were there. It’s an amazing place.”

Miocic (16-2) has won 10 of his 12 fights with the promotion, but is not currently signed to a bout. Possible challengers Cain Velasquez and Fabricio Werdum, the latter Miocic beat for the title, are set to collide in December.

“It’s a tough call,” Miocic said. “We’ve got Cain, who’s coming back strong, he looked amazing in his last fight, wants a shot at the title. Werdum is Werdum, he’s fought the best in the world and beat the best in the world. So it’s an interesting fight, I think whoever implements their gameplan the best is going to win. I don’t care who it is.”
