RANDLEMAN CITED FOR NON-LEGIT URINE SAMPLE, FACES NSAC SUSPENSION

By Loretta Hunt

Kevin Randleman (16-12) came up clean for steroids on Oct 21. Unfortunately, he also came up clean for any human hormones and faces suspension by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Randleman’s post-fight urinalysis following his Oct 21 PRIDE 32 “The Real Deal” loss to Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (14-2) initially yielded negative test results for steroids, yet further test results received today by the Nevada State Athletic Commission show the fighter’s urine samples were also void of human hormones.

“The lab has determined this is not a legitimate sample,” said NSAC Executive Director Keith Kizer this afternoon. “It was either allegedly non-human urine or urine from a dead human being.”

Kizer was unsure of the details of Randleman’s urine sample collection, or if the state-designated inspector was directly present with him in a stall or other area where the fighter provided his specimen.

Both PRIDE and Randleman have been initially contacted via phone of the allegations. Randleman will also receive written notification of allegations and will have 20 days to reply in writing to them.

Kizer has placed Randleman’s name on the agency’s next meeting agenda for temporary suspension until further hearings can be set to review the matter. If found guilty, Randleman faces penalties ranging from warnings and suspensions to revocation of license and/or fines not exceeding $250,000 or the fighter’s purse, whichever is greater. NSAC records listed Randleman’s PRIDE 32 purse at $40,000.

In 2005, K-1 fighter Sean McCully’s Nevada license was revoked following a “flatline” test in which his urine sample also proved void of human hormones.

Randleman was initially unavailable for comment.
