It’s hard these days for a fighter to find longevity in the sport of MMA, let alone in the UFC. Great fighters can go on multi-fight losing streaks and be released from the company within a matter of months, which makes careers such as Rick Story’s that much more impressive.
Even with 18 total fights for the UFC and big wins against top Welterweights such as Thiago Alves and Johny Hendricks, Story has found a way to fly under the radar. That all ends on August 20th when Story fights fan-favorite Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at UFC 202 in Las Vegas, Nevada, a card headlined by the media circus that will be Conor McGregor vs. Nate Diaz 2. The time has come for the longtime veteran to step into the spotlight.
Being around since 2009 Story has seen a lot in the sport, including the spike in performance-enhancing drug (P.E.D.) usage and the evolution in the sports testing. While the positive tests frustrate fans, Story is happy to see the sport get cleaned up,
” … I’m glad that all these people are testing positive for this sh*t because it’s annoying. I mean, it opened my eyes when everyone started testing positive. It’s insane…”
