A very exciting fight between a pair of Heavyweight knockout artists has been officially announced for UFC 209, according to a report on the UFC’s official website.
UFC.com reported this week that a battle of former K-1 World Grand Prix Champions Alistair Overeem and Mark Hunt will take place as part of the UFC 209 pay-per-view fight card in March.
Hunt has been very outspoken about the UFC since losing to Brock Lesnar at the landmark UFC 200 event in July, only to find out that Lesnar had tested positive on multiple drug tests leading up to their Octagon showdown.
For his part, Overeem last fought in Cincinatti, Ohio, getting knocked out by reigning UFC Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic in a wild, back-and-forth battle that didn’t get out of the first round.
While Hunt has claimed that he is only taking the Overeem bout proposed by UFC if they include a special clause in the contract that states he gets all of Overeem’s fight purse if he tests positive on any of the drug tests involved with the fight, the UFC themselves are claiming that the Hunt-Overeem bout is on for UFC 209.
If true, that’s definitely a good one.
UFC 209 takes place live from Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, March 4, 2017.
