UFC Delivering The Goods To MMA Fans In April

The Ultimate Fighting Championship will be delivering the goods in the month of April. While looking at the calendar of MMA events recently, I realized how stacked a month April is for MMA fans in general. Most of it will be provided by the kings of the sport – the UFC.

It begins on Thursday, April 5th with UFC Fight Night 9 live on Spike TV, with a main event of Joe Stevenson vs. Melvin Guillard.

Later that night, the season premiere of The Ultimate Fighter 5 with an all Lightweight cast will debut on Spike TV.

A mere two days later, Saturday, April 7th will see the octagon land in Houston for the first ever Texas-based UFC PPV event being dubbed “Shootout,” with Georges St. Pierre making his first UFC Welterweight title defense against Ultimate Fighter 4 winner Matt Serra. That show also features the very highly anticipated Welterweight bout between Ultimate Fighter season one stand out Josh Koscheck, and winner Diego Sanchez.

Five days will pass following that event and then it's time for the second episode from season five of The Ultimate Fighter on Spike TV. A week after that will be episode number three.

Two days later, UFC 70 “Nations Collide” will be the first full PPV event delivered on free cable television. It will be broadcast on Spike TV (most likely) in prime time on tape delay from England. Fighting on the card will be Mirko CroCop against Gabriel Gonzaga in a Heavyweight title eliminator, Andrei Arlovski against the former PRIDE star Fabricio Werdum, Forrest Griffin against undefeated “Lyoto” Ryoto Machida, Michael Bisping against journeyman Elvis Sinosic – as well as a loaded undercard featuring high-profile international bouts.

Five days after that will be the final first-run program in the month of April from UFC as we get episode four of The Ultimate Fighter 5.

Oh yeah, that's only what UFC has for us in the month of April. On April 8th will be the PRIDE 34 “Kamikaze” PPV show. April 14th will be the BodogFIGHT PPV featuring Fedor Emelianenko vs. Matt Lindland.

Holy shit.
