Current UFC heavyweight Josh Barnett, who is facing a lengthy suspension after failing a USADA out-of-competition drug test in December, has at least temporarily found a new gig. This week, he turned up at a taping for TNA Wrestling — and wound up facing none other than Bobby Lashley. That would mark the first time a current UFC fighter has faced a current Bellator fighter, albeit in the world of professional wrestling.
Barnett (35-8) was last seen scoring a win over Andrei Arlovski in Germany back in September. The Warmaster has a long history in pro wrestling, and has actually faced Lashley on the wrestling circuit before, in Japan’s Inoki Genome Federation. Barnett has also worked as a commentator for NJPW. Lashley, meanwhile, got his start in pro wrestling, and spent time in the WWE before moving on to TNA. Alongside his pro wrestling endeavors, he has amassed an impressive record in MMA, currently sitting at 15-2 and on a current 8-fight win streak. He is 5-0 under the Bellator banner.
According to reports, Barnett wrestled both Lashley and Bad Bones at the taping, expected to air in February. Historically, the UFC has not allowed its athletes to perform in the wrestling world while under contract, though exceptions have been made, such as in the case of Ronda Rousey.
