In a recent interview, Frankie Saenz reveals that he specifically requested to fight Urijah Faber at Saturday’s UFC 194. He mentioned he had read they were having trouble finding an opponent for Faber, then reached out to the UFC, and the match was made. Here’s what he had to say:
“I actually asked them for this fight, and I wasn’t too surprised when I found out he would take the fight,” said Saenz. “I know the divison a little bit, I know who’s fighting and I know who’s not. I figured if he really wants to fight, he’ll take it, and that’s what happened.”
Saenz was confident he would win on Saturday and hopes to claim the “fight of the night,” but didn’t talk any trash about Faber.
“He’s someone I’ve looked up to, someone my sons look up to, someone a lot of young people look up to. He’s great for the sport as far as being a role model. Who’s not a fan of Urijah.”
UFC 194 takes place on December 12th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. We’ll have full coverage all week here on MMANews.com, with live round-by-round results on Saturday night.
