Alexander Gustafsson On Jones-Cormier Postponement: “It Was My Fight To Begin With”

Alexander Gustafsson, who was originally scheduled to fight Jon Jones in the UFC 178 main event in September before being sidelined with a torn meniscus, is less than pleased, to say the least, about yesterday’s news regarding Jones vs. Daniel Cormier being postponed until UFC 182 in January due to the champion suffering a similar injury in training.

When the news first broke, Gustafsson reacted on Facebook by writing, “It was MY fight to begin with and I WANT the fight as the number 1 contender. End of story!!”

According to Gustafsson, if Jones isn’t able to compete until January, then he sees no reason why he shouldn’t get the fight that was originally his in the first place. Instead, UFC officials made it clear on Tuesday that they fully intend to keep the Jones-Cormier match, with Gustafsson likely getting a shot at the winner, as long as he’s willing to sit out for an extended period of time.

Today, Gustafsson returned to Facebook to further address the situation. His latest Facebook post can be seen below.

In response to Gustafsson’s comments, the number two ranked Light Heavyweight contender had the following to say about the number one ranked contender when informed by a fan on Twitter that he feels he should get the fight with Jones in January instead of D.C.
