Amanda Nunes vs. Raquel Pennington in Discussion For Upcoming UFC PPV

UFC officials are discussing the next title contender for women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes.

MMANews.com’s own Damon Martin recently noted on his Twitter account that the promotion is considering the possibility of booking Nunes against top contender Raquel Pennington.

As of this writing, this is just a discussion and has yet to be officially announced. Also, while there is no date confirmed for this bout, the promotion could end up holding it at UFC 224.

“Sources say Amanda Nunes vs. Raquel Pennington is being discussed currently,” Martin wrote. “Haven’t heard a date but I’d assume UFC 224 in Brazil would be a likely landing spot.”

While there was some bad blood between Nunes and UFC women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg, the promotion couldn’t make the fight happen.

In the past, Cyborg has explained her position on the possible fight with Nunes in recent interviews. As for the main reason, it’s due to her not wanting to fight a fellow Brazilian.

Cyborg has stated in that she is willing to fight Invicta FC women’s featherweight champion Megan Anderson. Nunes has gone on record by stating that she’s ready to go as soon as possible.

Fight fans are going to have to wait to see Cyborg vs. Nunes as it’s expected that Cyborg vs. Yana Kunitskaya will headline the UFC 222 fight card.

The UFC 224 pay-per-view event is set to take place on May 12, 2018, at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The main card will air on pay-per-view while the preliminary card will air on FOX Sports 1 and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass.

What are your thoughts about this potential title bout? Is this the right opponent for the champion in her next title defense? Should they have gone with another title contender? Or should the promotion has gone to great lengths to make Cyborg vs. Nunes in a super fight happen. Let your voice be known in the comment section below.
