Anderson Silva Signs 15-Fight Contract Extension With UFC

Fans who were worried about never seeing Anderson Silva fight again when he went down with a gruesome leg injury last December in his second fight with Chris Weidman — fear not.

Silva, who reportedly had eights left on his current UFC contract, including his upcoming return in January at UFC 183 against Nick Diaz, apparently signed a contract extension with the promotion over the weekend in Brazil.

“The Spider” had dinner with UFC President Dana White and UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta and a new deal was reached that will see arguably the best fighter in MMA history remain with the company for 15 more fights.

“I had seven fights on my contract [after Diaz]. I met Lorenzo and Dana on Thursday and that contract was canceled. We signed for another 15 fights,” Silva told Brazilian MMA website, Combate. “To make Dana crazy, I signed for 15 more fights. And to make my family crazy, too.”

“The Spider” also revealed that while he’s no longer sponsored by Nike, he may have another large tennis-shoe deal around the corner.

“I was always a Nike fan, I like the brand. The company gave me an opportunity to fulfill a dream. Thanks to Ronaldo and Corinthians, I was able to work with Nike,” he said. “It was great, I liked it a lot. I’ll miss them, always remember it. We’re in a good relationship with Adidas now. There’s nothing done, we’ll see what happens in the future.”
