Following the announcement that Mirko “CroCop” Filipovic is once again retiring from MMA after suffering an injury in training, Anthony Hamilton finds himself without an opponent for UFC Fight Night 79. One thing is for sure, Hamilton will not be fighting heavyweight contender Ben Rothwell.
Rothwell informed fight fans via social media that as soon as the news about the CroCop situation broke, he immediately contacted the UFC and asked to take the fight against Hamilton on short notice. According to “Big” Ben, however, UFC wasn’t interested.
Rothwell posted the following on Twitter:
I already asked to fill in for @CroCopOfficial @ufc and that was denied… Sorry fight fans
