Benson Henderson is offering to step up and fight another Welterweight bout to save the UFC 186 fight card in Montreal this month.
The card, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 25th at the Bell Centre, has suffered a series of hits, with several fights being pulled from the event along the way.
Originally, T.J. Dillashaw was scheduled to headline the event, defending his UFC Bantamweight Championship in a rematch against the former champion, Renan Barao. Dillashaw suffered a rib injury while training for the fight, and as a result the fight was cancelled.
Rory MacDonald, the home country star of the show, was scheduled to fight ranked contender Hector Lombard, however Lombard failed a drug test in his last Octagon appearance, and as a result MacDonald was pulled from the event and fast-tracked to a title match with UFC Welterweight Champion Robbie Lawler on the UFC 189 card in July.
Today, news surfaced that Quinton Jackson vs. Fabio Maldonado is off the card as well, as Rampage lost his preliminary injunction against Bellator, ultimately preventing him from competing on the card as scheduled.
This leads to Benson Henderson’s open challenge to fight a Welterweight contest on the card. Henderson tweeted the following on Tuesday:
