Brian Stann: Jose Aldo Will Fight “Based On The Financial Impact Alone”

Ever since the news broke that UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo is suffering from injured ribs, the MMA world has been on edge waiting to see if he’ll compete against Conor McGregor at UFC 189 as scheduled. UFC commentator Brian Stann, however, believes he has the answer already.

“I think [Aldo] makes the walk based on the financial impact alone,” Stann said on FOX Sports 1 this weekend. “Here’s the positive things for Jose Aldo going into this fight: This fight is going to make him an awful lot of money — win, lose or draw. He’s the only featherweight champion in history. I think he merits, no matter what, an immediate rematch if he were to lose this fight.”

And according to Stann, an immediate rematch just means another big payday, even more reason for Aldo to make the walk on July 11.

“For him, he takes the fight, there’s already a built-in thing where if the performance is terrible people are going to point to the ribs first,” said Stann. “And there’s great build-up for a rematch and he’ll get another great payday.”

As reported earlier this weekend, if Aldo is unable to make it to the fight on 7/11, UFC had Chad Mendes on standby to fight McGregor for an interim title.

UFC 189: Aldo vs. McGregor is scheduled for Saturday, July 11, 2015 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, airing live on pay-per-view.
