Colby Covington Argues Why Usman Isn’t The #1 P4P Fighter

Frustration has come to a boil as Colby Covington awaits his title rematch, and in the meantime, he took some verbal jabs at UFC champ Kamaru Usman.

Kamaru Usman scored a spectacular right-cross knockout against Jorge Masvidal at UFC 261. The electric event took place in front of a full-capacity VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena. Since then, Usman has been staking his claim as the number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world, but Colby “Chaos” Covington dismissed that notion and believes the two have unfinished business to settle. From the looks of it, it seems UFC president Dana White is on board with the rematch too.

“He’s just reaffirming to the fans that he’s not the best welterweight. He’s not this GOAT or No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter. If he was, he would want to fight a guy where there’s still a lot of drama to be finished. There’s a lot of unfinished business. The ending to that last fight, you shouldn’t want to win like that. That’s not a real winner. He’s making this fake narrative that he broke my jaw (when he didn’t).” Colby Covington said to MMA Junkie.

Initially, Usman and his team were cold on the idea of facing Covington in a rematch. Allegedly, it is because Usman believes that as a champion, he has been more active than Covington and that if he or anyone else in his division wants a shot at the king, they will have to “show him something”.

After hearing that Usman might have cold feet leading into their inevitable rematch, Colby Covington believes behavior like that is not indicative of a #1 pound-for-pound fighter or a “GOAT.” Since the ending to the fight between Covington was controversial to some, it seems striking while the iron is hot perhaps could be the best course of action for the UFC at this time.

Who would you favor between Colby Covington and champ Kamaru Usman in a rematch?
