While the MMA world is waiting on pins and needles to find out whether or not Jose Aldo will be able to compete as scheduled on July 11, his opponent — Conor McGregor — doesn’t seem bothered by the situation at all.
“It’s part of the business,” said McGregor to reporters on Thursday in Las Vegas. “It is what it is. I did predict it. You can’t go into wars time and time again. The body breaks. The body has given in, but it’s still there. It turns out it’s just a bruised rib so a little bit of ice, little bit of Ibuprofen, little bit of toughen the f*ck up and we should get on with the fight.”
“The Notorious” revealed that at one point, there was even talk of him fighting at 155 pounds, just so he could remain on the card and fight for the many Irish fans who will be flying to Las Vegas to watch him perform.
“It makes no difference to me,’ said McGregor. “There were a few different options. 155 [pounds] was an option if the [Aldo] fight would have had to be rescheduled for seven weeks time, which is what they were telling me. I said, ‘Well, there’s a lot of Irish people coming over here, costs a lot of money here in Vegas, so as long as I’m fit and healthy it’s only right to show up and fight.'”
McGregor continued, “I don’t give a f*ck. I’ll be there, July 10, 145 pounds and July 11 I will have a gold belt wrapped around my waist. Everything else means nothing to me.”
As announced by the UFC earlier this week, if Aldo is unable to compete on 7/11 in Las Vegas, McGregor will remain on the card, fighting Chad Mendes for an interim UFC Featherweight Championship. While one would assume McGregor hopes Aldo shows up on fight night, when talking with the media on Thursday, he didn’t seem to care who his opponent will be on the evening.
“Who the f*ck knows, eh? Who knows. Again, I know I’ll be there. That’s all I know. I’ll whoop both of them on the same night, if need be. Whoever shows up to the Octagon will get beat. They’re all the same to me.”
At this point, “The Notorious” Conor McGregor was just getting verbally warmed up. Continue reading what the Irish mega-star had to say by clicking ahead to page two …
