Conor McGregor’s Coach John Kavanagh: “He Has Lost His Mind”

During the recent UFC 194 Embedded special to promote tonight’s pay-per-view, Jose Aldo’s wife, Viviane Perreira, shared her belief that Conor McGregor is a “psycho” and is “out of his mind.” Apparently Perreira won’t be getting any arguments from Team Notorious.

On Monday’s edition of “The MMA Hour,” McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh explained to Ariel Helwani why Aldo’s wife is actually correct in thinking that.

“That’s actually true,” said Kavanagh. “He has lost his mind. He would openly admit that. When he’s going in there, it’s not sports. It’s not like, ‘Oh, I did my best.’ He’s going to the death.”

Although Aldo hasn’t lost a fight in ten years and to this day is still the only featherweight champion in UFC history, Kavanagh explains why he feels McGregor will not only win, but will likely do so in impressive fashion.

“How many first-round knockouts does Conor have?” Kavanagh said. “He hits different. That’s not my opinion. That’s just a fact. If Aldo does get caught up in that storm, and meets him in the middle and trades, factually speaking one of the two will go down. That just is based on previous performances.”

With talk of McGregor’s knockout win over Chad Mendes not being as impressive as it would have been had Mendes had a full training camp as opposed to taking the fight on short notice, Kavanagh says he looks forward to seeing the reaction to what happens inside the Octagon at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Saturday evening.

“I genuinely am looking forward to this one as a fan, because I just get to sit in the corner and be quiet and watch,” Kavanagh said. “I’m really looking forward to it. Things have changed, even in the last few weeks I’ve noted some changes in Conor. People are gonna be very surprised in this fight. There’s lot that’s gonna be happening. I’m looking forward to it.”
