Fans who were concerned that Jose Aldo would be pulling out of his scheduled UFC Featherweight Championship defense against rising Irish contender Conor McGregor might not need to worry so much after all.
After Dana White posted a cryptic tweet earlier in the day, which was just a simple “smiley face” emoticon, which could be unrelated to the Aldo-McGregor rumors and could be more related to the struggle to get MMA legalized in the state of New York, the UFC President has followed up with some tweets late Wednesday evening that have fans anticipatinng the Aldo-McGregor showdown breathing a sigh of relief.
First, White wrote, “I told everyone not to worry,” and then he posted a photo of a giant Aldo-McGregor billboard displayed outside the MGM Grand, where the fight is scheduled to take place on July 11th.
Additionally, UFC released a statement updating fans on the physical condition of Aldo, and notifying fans that if for some reason Aldo cannot compete, UFC Featherweight contender Chad Mendes will step up and fight McGregor for what will be an interim UFC Featherweight Championship that would no doubt be unified with Aldo’s legitimate title, if and when that situation were to present itself.
