Dana White Predicts 750,000 Pay-Per-View Buys For UFC 182 (UPDATED)

UPDATE: After initially predicting 750,000 buys for this past Saturday’s UFC 182 pay-per-view event, UFC President Dana White is now claiming that the numbers are tracking much higher than his original expectations. Basically, if his tracking estimates are correct, the Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier headlined PPV show from this past weekend will end up delivering even more than 750,000 buys on pay-per-view.

ORIGINAL STORY:

The UFC Light Heavyweight Championship bout between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier at this Saturday’s UFC 182 pay-per-view event is one of the most anticipated showdowns in MMA history, although you wouldn’t know that by looking at the ticket sales for this show.

Tickets for Saturday’s UFC 182 event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada are still available, as the early belief is this event may not end up selling out.

“Jon and I would fight in an empty arena,” Cormier said Thursday. “So it doesn’t really matter. I want people to go out and watch, so it will be good. But I understand that it’s the holidays, right after the New Year, it’s tough, tickets are expensive. I understand. I’m from a family with not much money, I understand why it would be hard to make all these things happen, Christmas, New Year’s and then the fight happens.”

Regardless of ticket sales, UFC President Dana White is confident that this show will deliver on pay-per-view.

What is considered a pay-per-view success these days?

“I think this fight will do 750[,000 pay-per-view buys],” said White. “That’s where I place the line.”

White continued, “Everyone thinks the pay-per-view thing is dead. Pay-per-view isn’t dead. We just had a bad year.”
