Donald Cerrone lost to Rafael dos Anjos at Saturday’s UFC on FOX 17, and fans have been questioning whether the fight was stopped too soon. Cerrone weighed in with his opinion on the stoppage on the FOX Sports 1 post-fight show. Here’s what he had to say:
“I don’t have any control of it,” Cerrone said. “They stopped it. [It’s] whether I should have been intelligently defending myself, I guess. He had my back. I don’t know. It doesn’t matter.”
“It sucks. I don’t have words for it. The unfortunate part about this job is if you don’t show up to work, and the other guy does, you end up getting your ass whipped, don’t you?”
“He showed up, I didn’t,” Cerrone continued. “Nature of the beast in this game. Hey, what are you gonna do?”
The fight ended early on when Anjos unleashed a flurry of strikes. The fight was stopped on the ground after Anjos hit a knee to the liver that started off another combination of strikes.
UFC on FOX 17 was the final UFC event of the year and went down at the Amway Center in Orlando on Saturday, 12/19.
