The main event of the UFC’s February 21st Fight Night card on Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania has been a bit of a mystery for a few weeks. The card was almost full and less than two months away, but nothing close to main event caliber had been announced and the UFC’s events schedule had it listed without a main event. Well, tonight, that finally changed. During the Fox Sports 1 weigh-in show for tomorrow night’s UFC 195 card, it was announced that Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone will move up to welterweight for the first time in his career to fight Tim “The Dirty Bird” Means n the five round headliner.
Cerrone, of course, was just stopped by lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos two weeks ago, and had expressed his intention to get back on the horse quickly. Taking a page out of his friend Benson Henderson’s book, he moves up in weight to seemingly do the UFC a favor by taking on a very dangerous opponent. Means has primarily fought in prelims, but he was in the “featured prelim” (main card caliber) slot at the loaded UFC 189 card and stylistically, he should give Cerrone a corker of a fight.
Among what else has been announced, either Roan Carneiro vs. Derek Brunson or John Lineker vs. Cody Garbrandt looks likely for the co-feature slot. The other potential main card candidates look to be some combination of Joe Riggs vs. Chris Camozzi, Brandon Thatch vs. Siyar Bahadurzada, James Krause vs. Shane Campbell, and/or Sarah Moras vs. Lauren Murphy.
