Although Bellator Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez is currently under a contract with Bellator, sources insist that the highly-regarded fighter is negotiating for his debut with the UFC.
Multiple media outlets are reporting that a bout is in the works between Alvarez and Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone for what is becoming quite the loaded lineup for UFC 178: “Jones vs. Cormier” on September 27th.
Cerrone (24-6-1), currently the number four ranked Lightweight in the UFC, is riding a four-fight win streak, with his last fight resulting in a second round knockout over Jim Miller at UFC Fight Night on July 16th.
Alvarez (25-3), on the other hand, is 10-1 in his last 11 fights, with the lone defeat against Michael Chandler in November of 2011. Alvarez would go on to defeat Chandler in his most recent fight, winning by way of split decision to capture Bellator’s Lightweight Championship.
UFC 178 takes place on September 27th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
