Fresh off last night’s UFC 166 title defense, Cain Velasquez will now likely set his sights on a new opponent after UFC President Dana White announced during the post fight press conference that Fabricio Werdum is the next in line for Velasquez.
When asked who would be next for the champion, White stated “Werdum’s probably next; Werdum makes the most sense.”
White also discussed how the bout would go if the two are matched up:
“His whole game has improved. The guy’s a big, strong, durable guy. And his jiujitsu, he’s going to want to go to the ground – which makes this fight very interesting. Stylistically, these guys standing on their feet, we’ll see who has the better standup, and for the first time, if it goes to the ground, I think it’s a dangerous place for Cain Velasquez.”
