Frankie Edgar Says UFC Should Force Conor McGregor To Defend 145-Pound Title

Ahead of his Interim UFC Featherweight Title bout against Jose Aldo at next Saturday’s UFC 200 pay-per-view, former UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar continues to talk about the “interim” portion of his “title fight.”

As Edgar explained this week, he feels the reigning UFC Featherweight Champion, Conor McGregor, should have been forced to come back to defend the 145-pound title after being given the privilege of going up in weight to fight Nate Diaz at 170-pounds in his first fight since winning the title from Aldo.

“I think [McGregor] should have to defend it,” said Edgar in a recent interview with International Business Times (via Daily Star and MMAMania). “He got to go do what he wanted to do and go up a weight class, or do whatever. It didn’t work out for him, and he should have to come back and defend it.”

As Edgar continued, he shared his belief that McGregor has more power to call his shots than the rest of the fighters in the UFC and while he understands why he would want to use that power to gain revenge on the guy who beat him, because in this case, it’s at his expense.

“But he calls the shots a little bit more than other guys, and I can’t hate him for wanting to get revenge and all that stuff.,” added Edgar. “But of course it’s at my expense, so I’m looking at it a different way.”

The Edgar-Aldo 2 bout is scheduled to take place at the UFC 200 pay-per-view on Saturday, July 9, 2016 from the brand new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
