Former UFC Lightweight contender and current top-ranked UFC Featherweight contender Frankie Edgar is making it clear what his intentions are for his next fight inside the Octagon.
Edgar (19-4-1) has reportedly come to the conclusion that the only fight that makes sense to him at this point in his already legendary career is a UFC Featherweight title shot.
It was reported via Ariel Helwani on this week’s edition of UFC Tonight that Edgar expects to meet the winner of the Jose Aldo vs. Conor McGregor UFC Featherweight title fight at UFC 189, and will not accept another opponent.
While Edgar gave current champion Aldo one of the toughest fights of his current title reign, and followed it up with an awesome finish of top-ranked contender Cub Swanson, he was ultimately passed over for the next title shot, as the charismatic McGregor — despite being ranked beneath Edgar — received the next title shot at Aldo. According to Edgar’s manager, Al Abdel-Aziz, his fighter will not be passed over again.
Abdel-Aziz said the following of Edgar, who most recently outpointed MMA legend Urijah Faber to continue his winning streak inside the Octagon: “We’re not going to let them step over us a second-time.”
Frankie Edgar is scheduled to be in attendance at UFC 189 on July 11th, where Jose Aldo will defend his UFC Featherweight Championship against Conor McGregor in the main event of the evening.
