Gegard Mousasi Says He Wants To Fight Anderson Silva, Nick Diaz Or Luke Rockhold Next

After his picking up his fourth straight victory, three by way of KO or TKO and all in 2016, with his win over Urijah Hall in their rematch on Saturday night, Gegard Mousasi has his sights set on a big fight the next time he steps into the Octagon.

At the official UFC Fight Night 99 post-fight press conference on Saturday evening after his win over Hall in the main event of the show held in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Mousasi noted that he hopes to fight one of three men next: Anderson Silva, Nick Diaz or Luke Rockhold.

For each potential high-profile fighter Mousasi has a different reason why he feels they would make for a good opponent. In the case of Anderson Silva, it appears to simply be a case of wanting to fight and beat “The Spider,” widely considered the best pound-for-pound MMA fighter of all-time and easily the best Middleweight Champion in UFC history. For Nick Diaz, he mentioned it being a good “Super Fight,” indicating that it is a fight that fans would like to see regardless of what it means to a particular weight class, and likely because fighting either Diaz right now would result in a lot of eyeballs on your match. Finally, Mousasi mentioned Rockhold because he feels he would be a good opponent to face to earn the right to fight for the UFC Middleweight Championship, which the Team AKA fighter recently held before being upset by the current title-holder, Michael Bisping.

“Anderson Silva, Nick Diaz as a super fight, that’s a great fight for me; but to get to a title shot, maybe Luke Rockhold,” Mousasi said when asked the usual post-fight question regarding who he would like to fight in his next Octagon appearance.

Mousasi continued, “It depends on UFC. If they give me top-10, top-15, No. 2, I’ll take the fight as long as they give me the next title shot. I’m ready to take anyone.”
